Drumbeat UK Autumn 15 - page 14-15

Fabulous Beaches:
Ok, so it’s not really safari,
but North Island in the Seychelles would be near
the top of my list. Exotic villas, turquoise ocean, so
romantic, superb food and wine – what’s not to like?
Sleep Out:
A little scary the first time but now
I’m a convert. A bed roll, mosquito net, camp
fire and a zillion stars might not sound like luxury
but believe me you’ll be back for more

Gorilla Tracking:
Coming face to face
with a mountain gorilla, the world’s largest
living primate, is unforgettable. I think
it’s one of the most rewarding African
experiences we organise.
Canoe Safari:
An exhilarating way to
immerse yourself in the wilderness. Mana
Pools in Zimbabwe is my favourite choice –
quite simply one of the most beautiful
places in Africa.
The wildebeest migration:
It’s the greatest wildlife show on
earth and watching a river crossing is
wildlife viewing without compare.
Quadbiking:
This would definitely
be on the kids’ list. There’s more than
you might imagine – Kenya, Botswana,
Namibia and Malawi all offer this and
it’s a fun way to explore.
Scuba:
There’s an underwater paradise
off the African coast with some of the best
diving and snorkelling in the world. My top
choice – Mnemba a stunning private island
just off Zanzibar.
Walking Safari:
You feel mighty small
standing a few feet from an elephant or rhino
but there’s nothing to beat a walking safari for
feeling really alive.

What’s on your
safari bucket list?
We asked the Aardvark Safaris’ sales
team what they’d include on their
safari bucket list. Here’s what they
came up with.
Riding:
Exploring Africa’s wilderness on horseback is a real treat. For the sheer
joy and exhilaration I’d go back to the Okavango Delta time and again.
Mobile Camping:
Even the simplest mobile set up offers a private camp,
guide and vehicle while some of the grander operations offer extraordinary
levels of comfort. It’s a very spoiling way to enjoy the wilderness.
Climbing Kili:
Hard work, but the
reward is so worth it.
Meerkats & Lemurs:
I can’t choose, they’re
both totally captivating.
There’s just something
magical about getting
up close with these
iconic African animals.
Charlotte
Elephant Back Safari:
Riding elephants and mingling with
the herd at Abu’s Camp. I’ve been once – would it be very
cheeky to ask to go again?
Walking with Masai:
Striding across the plains
with a Masai guide is like something out of a film.
Uniquely African and always a winner.
