Drumbeat Spring 2023

of track by casting it with plaster of paris, and collecting it on later drives. Back at camp there are plenty of activities to keep younger guests entertained, from nature-inspired arts and crafts to catapult shooting and other more adventurous tracking activities, all in the safety and supervision of the amazing camp staff, whilst parents have a siesta or enjoy a peaceful dip in the pool. Of course, parents can get involved too and each camp provides families the chance to join in local games such as Bigini, Chiyato and Yda, as well as all the family favourites including chess and Uno. Following a fun-filled afternoon, adults and children enjoy a relaxing teatime during which children can share their freshly baked biscuits with their families and other guests. The camp’s teams love sharing their passion and knowledge of the various aspects of a safari lodge with young, aspiring guests, so whether the children fancy themselves as a future chef or want to learn how to serve dinner to their parents, there is always a chance for them to get involved alongside the experts. If you choose to go on a second wildlife drive during your day, children can take part in any of the aforementioned activities or relax and take in the wildlife. They can also learn about the conservation of the area, by finding out what is being done to protect wildlife, or visit a local village to experience the benefits of sustainable tourism first-hand. Parents have the choice of when to return to camp and what time they would like mealtimes to be. There are plenty of child- friendly menu options, and camps will go above and beyond to cater for even the fussiest little guests. After dinner it’s time to gather around the campfire and as parents sit back, a G&T in hand, kids can roast marshmallows or make a smore for dessert before retreating to their room and cosying down for the night.
